Physics Object from Heightmap?

Hello,

Is there any possibility to create a Physics Component from a Heightmap exported from your Editor? The Methods only accepts Model/Meshes sad

Re: Physics Object from Heightmap?

Hi,

the feature itself is included in the JigLibX, so yes, basically it's possible. I've also tryed it once and it worked fine. The problem was that creating a collision skin for the whole terrain took a crazy amount of RAM, so I'll have to write some code that dynamically loads/unloads collision skins for small parts of the terrain.
You might also notice some missing physics support with other components. It seemed easier to finish other parts of the Engine first so I haven't paid attention to the physics for some time.
I've planned to upload a new version of the Engine in a few days. I'll implement a possibility to create a collision skin for the terrain and I'll make sure that no major bugs occur with other physics related components.

Re: Physics Object from Heightmap?

Hi,

sorry that it took so long.
I have a new version really including a heightmap collision skin.
The problem is I have a very slow internet connection here. At the moment I upload the changes to my SVN-Repository which will take a few hours big_smile
I hope I can upload the new version during the next week.

Re: Physics Object from Heightmap?

Well, nearly. It's some kind of Light-DSL with is about 6 times ISDN big_smile
Fortunatly I will have access to a high-speed connection this weekend, so I will definitly upload it then.

Re: Physics Object from Heightmap?

Ok this slow internet connection is really killing me! I've uploaded the project and detected a major serialization problem afterwards. I fixed it and uploaded it again (took about 10 hours tongue) just to figure out that there's still a bug.. When saving a terrain to a heightmap it saves the absolute path instead of the relative.. So you can't open any saved files. I'll hopefully upload a working version in the next days. Until then here's unofficially the new version:
http://rapidshare.com/files/366538226/N … V1.4.1.rar
To create a collision skin for the terrain you'll have to uncomment the line "heightmapobject = new HeightmapObject()" in the Terrain.cs (This won't stay this way of cause tongue) You can render objects im/movable before creating them in the model creation options, or afterwards in the window that opens when you pick a model.
There's a known bug, if you create a model immovable, turn it movable and then immovable again (you maybe will never do this big_smile) other object might fall through it.
